Why Binnacle Counseling?
bin·na·cle: A case or stand on the deck of a ship that protects the navigational instruments from toppling over during unsteady waters.
I have found that I am continually drawn to the ocean and have a soft spot in my heart for nautical landscapes. I was inspired by the meaning of the word, "binnacle," because it so beautifully demonstrates the role of a counselor.
We can think of the ocean as a metaphor for our lives. The waters may be calm and steady or rough at times just like we can feel at peace or extremely stressed with our life circumstances. Regardless of where we are at, we carry a vision for the direction that we want to steer our lives toward that can often get derailed by life's obstacles. Just like a binnacle helps to protect and stabilize the navigational instruments of a ship, a counselor can provide safety and support during the hard times to help you get back on the course that you want for your life.
